Irish Cultural Centre Launches Free Hotline

Even technophobes can now access weekly lunchtime performances

Telephone hotline allows you to dial in to Irish music concerts

A unique initiative has been launched by the Irish Cultural Centre in Hammersmith to help combat loneliness and isolation during lockdown.

The third series of free lunchtime concerts by talented Irish musicians is now available to listen to simply by phoning a free hotline meaning that even those who are not computer literate can participate.

The Culture Hotline was developed and launched in response to the ongoing pandemic. The concerts are free to access online or by phone anywhere in the UK and aim to help boost wellbeing and mental health.

A spokesperson for the centre said, “The Culture Hotline is original and unique. It’s ideal for people who are not computer literate, as all you have to do is telephone the Hotline. The people who telephoned during the previous two seasons really enjoyed it. The project brings a huge amount of joy and comfort to people and we are eager to ensure that people West. London and also all around the UK and abroad get to know about it.”

Audiences can also join from anywhere in the world by downloading a free version of Microsoft Teams.

The Hotline also benefits artists by giving them the opportunity to develop and perform a programme of their choosing, expanding their audiences and providing a context for live performance during a time when musicians have lost many of their opportunities to tour and perform.

During this third series of events ICAP will offer callers advice and tips for keeping well during lockdown.

The line-up for the Series Three Line of calls which takes place on Wednesdays from 1pm-2pm is as follows:

24 Feb Ireland’s wonderful harpist, Seána Davey
3 March The gifted flautist and singer, Jacquie Hynes
10 March The awesome guitarist, Anthony McGrath
17 March St Patrick’s Day Special - Harpist Seána Davey with
Dublin’s acclaimed balladeer - Phelim Drew
24 March The internationally acclaimed flautist Eimear McGeown
31 March Harpist Seána Davey with Special Guests

The project is supported by Emigrant Support Programme and The Ireland Funds.
